What gyms actually order.

Large-format wall lettering

The signature piece. Gym walls are tall and viewing distances are long, so gym signage runs bigger than any other vertical we build for — 48″ and up is normal rather than ambitious, and it still reads as proportionate on a 14-foot wall.

Mirror-wall and rig-side pieces

Signs mounted beside the mirror run or along a rig. These are seen mostly in reflection, which changes the calculus: reversed text is unreadable, so keep these to marks and short words that survive being mirrored.

Reception and brand walls

Your name behind the desk, and the check-in piece members walk past twice per visit. This is where a gym’s signage does membership work rather than motivational work.

From the workshop

Three things worth getting right in a gym.

Mount it out of the drop zone

Anywhere a plate, bar or ball can travel is not a wall for signage. Keep pieces above about 8 feet or well clear of the platform and rig entirely. LED neon is durable but it is not impact rated, and a dropped bumper does not negotiate.

Scale to the room, not to the sketch

A 24-inch sign that looks generous on a phone screen disappears on a 14-foot gym wall. Measure the wall, then size the lettering to about a fifth of the wall width as a starting point — gyms under-order size more often than any other trade.

Long hours and humid air

A 24-hour gym runs its signage continuously and its air is warmer and wetter than an office. LED neon handles both, drawing a fraction of glass neon and generating no meaningful heat — but keep pieces off walls that back onto a wet room or sauna.

Gyms & Studios — common questions.

How big should a gym neon sign be?

Bigger than you think. Start at roughly one fifth of the wall width and work from there — on a typical gym wall that puts you at 48 inches or more. Undersizing is the single most common mistake in this vertical, because signs are chosen on a phone and hung on a 14-foot wall.

Will it survive a dropped weight?

It is not impact rated, so mount it out of the drop zone — above about 8 feet, or clear of the platform and rig. That is a placement decision rather than a product limitation, and it is worth making before you drill.

Can it run 24 hours a day?

Yes. LED neon is built for continuous operation and draws a fraction of the power of glass neon, which is what makes it viable for a 24-hour site. It also runs cool, so it does not add to the load on the wall behind it.
